THE RABBI’S CORNER

As rabbi of Temple Shir Tikvah, much of what I do centers on listening: to your concerns, joys, plans, fears. Life is very big and Judaism is one of the ways in which we make sense of life. The listening that we bring to each other creates our community. Shema Yisrael: Hear Oh Israel. I’d love to hear from you.

As I was growing up in my small town of Pottsville, PA, I would have lunch on Saturdays at The Famous — a  local restaurant where the businessmen in town would eat lunch. Most of them were Jewish; two were my mom and dad from The Music Mart. They would sit at the same table and people would rotate in and out. They let me JOIN them to solve the problems of the world, learn right from wrong (through gossip, a very powerful tool) and to keep each other’s spirits up by sharing each others’ joys through the path of life.

So it has been my dream to sit at some corner, at a cafe perhaps, and talk to whomever would pull up a chair and just pass the time. From this “cyber-corner” I’ll share some of what’s on my mind in writing about the news, Torah, and life. I invite you to pull up a chair and join me. Send me your responses and thoughts: RabbiRim@Shir-tikvah.org.

Rabbi Rim Would Like Your Feedback
To understand how I can be more effective as your rabbi, I’d like to know if there is some insight, image, idea, or fact that you’ve learned from me that has been helpful, crucial or particularly new to you. It might be that this idea has come in a class, in a service, in a conversation, or in something I’ve written. It might be an idea about something Jewish or something human.

Conversely, if there is some image, idea, fact, or insight that you find particularly difficult, annoying, incomprehensible, or banal, please let me know that as well. It may also be that there is some question about something that we’ve never talked about or dealt with. I’d love to know what issues are important for you.

If, for some reason, you would rather not send me an email directly, our VP of Jewish Life would be happy to receive your comments in confidence.

Thanks so much,

—Rabbi Rim Meirowitz, RabbiRim@Shir-Tikvah.org
