A Quick High Holiday Q&A

Q: I'm a Shir Tikvah member. Do I need to register/buy a ticket?

A: No. We will send members an "e-ticket" directly the week before Rosh Hashanah. It will have all the links you'll need. Remember to check your email.

Q: I'm not a Shir Tikvah member. How can I sign up for High Holiday services?

A: Fill out the registration on the left. It's quick, easy, and there is no charge, although a donation to our High Holiday fund is always appreciated.

Q: I have family or friends that I want to "bring with me" virtually. What should I do?

A: Please have them come here to and sign up.

Q: What technology will I need to join services?

A: Most larger services will be streamed on Facebook, YouTube, and more. Smaller services (including the Aleph and Kehillah services for families) will be on Zoom.

Q: Do I need a prayerbook?

A: The text of all prayers will be shown on-screen. Shir Tikvah members (optionally) can request a printed prayerbook. Pickup times are September 1 - 3, from 3 pm - 7 pm. The deadline to reserve is Monday, August 30 at 5 pm.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

The Shir Tikvah community and friends gather at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur to take a personal and communal inventory of the past year and to envision the next. Services are a moving blend of prayer, contemplation, and remembrance, woven together with music—our cantor's soulful chant, our choir, members who are talented vocal and instrumental soloists, and the entire congregation singing as one.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, services are streamed; we encourage you to "pod up" and watch services together in a friend's backyard or home, in whatever way public safety guidelines will allow.

In non-pandemic times we gather in Winchester Town Hall, a short walk from the temple building, to accommodate the large turnout. The second day of Rosh Hashanah takes place at the Temple. Families can also celebrate the holidays together at child-friendly services. Aleph services are geared to children 5 and under; Kehillah services are for families with kids ages 6-10. Aleph and Kehillah services are held at the Temple, and led by Rabbi Jessica Marshall.
