Sherry Mayrent, founder of the Mayrent Institute for Yiddish Culture, will give us a sonic tour exploring both the universal Jewish elements in Yiddish music as well as those unique to Eastern European Jewish culture. It will include comic dialog, Yiddish theatre songs and a rare recording of Sholom Aleichem reciting the monologue that forms the basis for “If I Were a Rich Man”. Knowledge of Yiddish is not required for these two evening sessions that promise to be amazing, educational and above all, highly entertaining.
