Naila and the Uprising is an eye-opening documentary by Just Vision about a remarkable Palestinian woman and the nonviolence movement she helped mobilize. When a late 1980‘s nation-wide uprising -- the First Intifada -- breaks out in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Naila Ayesh and a clandestine network of like-minded women with families, came to the front lines to influence creation of the most vibrant, nonviolent mobilization in Palestinian history. This mobilization forced the world to recognize the Palestinian right to self-determination for the first time. Using evocative animation, intimate interviews, and exclusive archival footage, this film brings out of anonymity the courageous women activists who have remained on the margins of history -- until now. The overarching goal of Just Vision is to contribute to fostering peace and an end to the occupation by rendering Palestinian and Israeli grassroots leaders more visible, valued and influential in their efforts.
