The purpose of this class is to build Hebrew reading fluency. This is done using Hebrew word flashcards and the book Journeys Through the Siddur/Friday Night which covers prayers such as L'chah Dodi, the Sh'ma, v’Ahavta, v'Shamru, Amidah, Mourner's Kaddish and more. This class is for those who already know how to read Hebrew. The book is available for purchase on Amazon, Tora Aura Productions, The Israel Book Shop, or from the instructor.
Hebrew for All
In many of the ways we connect with Judaism—prayer, meditation, social action, historical research, text study—we come to realize that our Hebrew language skills limit our ability to derive more understanding of what we study. You can benefit from learning Hebrew, be it in your oral reading or enhancing your conversational skills.
Temple Shir Tikvah now gives you a fresh opportunity to improve your Hebrew. We are now a sponsoring synagogue of the Ivrit la Kol (ILK)program. The program offers classes at a variety of levels from beginning to advanced. ILK has served the community for more than 20 years. It was developed jointly by Temple Emunah and Temple Isaiah in Lexington. You can learn how to read Hebrew, improve your ability to read prayers and study Biblical and Modern Conversational Hebrew.
A brochure with upcoming classes is linked above. Many classes begin after the High Holy Days. At present they will be available online, with the plan of returning to classrooms at Temple Emunah and Temple Isaiah. Most learners spend approximately three hours a week studying and doing exercises to develop their skills.
You can register with Ivrit la Kol directly. As a member of Shir Tikvah you are entitled to receive a discount of $25 per class per session. If you are interested in knowing more about the program please contact andyoram@shir-tikvah.org.
