Poetry as a Reflection on Transitions in later life, a reading and discussion with author Trish Perry
Sunday, November 2, 2025 • 11 Cheshvan 5786
2:00 PM - 3:30 PMIn 2015, Trish Perry found herself standing on the threshold, staring with bemusement at her previous life as a psychologist and coach and wondering about her newly entered life as a retired woman of a certain age. As a member of the first baby boom cohort, she was urged to fight ageism, not stand aside, not step out. Unsure of what that meant, she began to write poems – poems that were in part a journal, a reflection on aging, an exploration of change and transition. As she wrote, she found her poems seemed to reflect universal stories that resonated with others – stories about letting go of one identity, discovering new possibilities, entering a space where wisdom was waiting in the quiet spaces, and delight was possible even in the darker moments. She published her first book, Leave Taking, in 2022, her second one, The Space Between, in 2024.
Please join us to hear her heartfelt words that deeply resonate with life’s journey. Trish would love to share the story of her transition into writing and some of her poems, creating a space where we can come together. Optionally, if you have a short poem on the topic of aging and the transition to this new stage of life that resonates for you, there will be space for you to share that as well.
