Mussar is the Jewish spiritual renewal movement which focuses on connecting spiritual growth with day-to-day living and behavior. The practice of Mussar (מוּסַר) began in the middle ages and then was popularized in the nineteenth century by Rabbi Salanter (1810-1883). Since then, it was largely limited to practice in Orthodox communities until the early 2000s when Alan Morinis revived it and triggered broad interest across all of the Jewish denominations. Practicing Mussar entails working in a group to enhance spiritual and behavioral growth by finding the balance in personality traits such as humility, patience, gratitude, and responsibility. Mussar uses traditional writings, contemporary poetry, group discussions and personal exercises to help the participants progress on their own paths of leaning how to best connect their daily lives with their spiritual values. Space is limited -- priority will be given to member participants.
