Tour of Royall House and Slave Quarters

Saturday, May 4, 2019 29 Nisan 5779

12:45 PM - 2:00 PM15 George Street, Medford

In the eighteenth century, the Royall House and Slave Quarters was home to the largest slave-holding family in Massachusetts and the enslaved Africans who made their lavish way of life possible. Today, the Royall House and Slave Quarters is a museum whose architecture, household items, archaeological artifacts, and programs bear witness to intertwined stories of wealth and bondage, set against the backdrop of America’s quest for independence.

In observance of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first kidnapped Africans to be brought to slavery in Jamestown, and as part the the Racial Justice group's ongoing exploration of issues of racial justice and inequality, a private tour has been arranged. Join other temple members in learning more about this little known chapter of our local history.
