Rabbi Jessica Lowenthal of Temple Beth Shalom in Melrose has extensive experience teaching about the Holocaust, antisemitism, and other topics. Our Holocaust series will be as follows. The first session, "Setting the Stage," will explore Judaism in Generany prior to World War I. The second session, "The Rumor," will look at how hatred towards Jews expanded, developed, and eventually lead to the Shoah. We will have space to talk about how this history resonates with what we see and hear in our country today. The third session, "After the Anschluss," will focus on the experience of the Holocaust, focusing on how the arts helped people retain hope. After completing these sessions, we may wish to schedule a fourth session, "After the Holocaust," about how Germany took responsibility and changed, and what we in America can learn from these lessons.
