Jericho Walk Tuesday, August 6 | 8:00 am - 9:00 am | Burlington ICE Office, 1000 District Avenue
A Jericho Walk is an interfaith, symbolic and religious action outside the ICE offices in Burlington. Taking our lead from the story in the Tanakh of Joshua's army’s march around the city of Jericho, we stand together to call for the walls of ICE’s cruel, arbitrary and inhumane practices to fall. We join an interfaith group to march peaceably seven times around the ICE building carrying signs, singing, and chanting. Feel free to invite your like-minded friends to join us. All are welcome including children of all ages.

Tisha b'Av Service Saturday, August 10 | 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Come experience the hauntingly beautiful chant of these ancient words as we reflect on their relevance in today’s broken world. Boston-area synagogue communities will gather for a vigil outside the JFK Federal Building in downtown Boston, the home of our Boston immigration courts. The vigil will mourn the sorrow and torments of immigrant families in our shattered immigration system. It will be led by clergy members of T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights.

We're also recruiting new volunteers for our ongoing projects. Israel/Palestine Conversations at Temple Shir Tikvah
We are interested in gauging interest in conversations about Israel/Palestine. If you would like to be part of exploring the complexities of this topic (which could include discussions about Israel/Palestine on college campuses, or how to help your child navigate this challenging subject in public school, or even how to articulate your own feelings), please contact us here. More information will follow in the coming months. We thank the Israel Committee for bringing this opportunity to our community.

Healthcare Reform Discussion
Do you have a story about trying to access or pay for health care? Do you know others who struggle with these issues? GBIO (Greater Boston Interfaith Organization) has identified healthcare reform as its major focus for the legislative session ending in July 2020 with the focus being reduction of drug costs, reduction of overall out of pocket expenditures and mental health parity.
Please join us on Thursday August 15 at 7 pm at the Temple to share our healthcare stories and learn about GBIOs plans and some of the bills that have been proposed in the legislature. We will also be giving out information about a GBIO healthcare "teach-in" happening on Sept 5.
If you cannot join us on Aug 15, but would be willing to share your story or be on an email list to learn more throughout the year (and help with phone calls to legislators or State House actions) please contact Anne Emmerich or Perry Doherty at shirtzedek@shir-tikvah.org. If you would like to learn more about the GBIO healthcare "teach-in" on Sept 5, please also contact Anne or Perry.
