Coping and Resource Group Monday, June 10 | 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm | Temple Shir Tikvah Sanctuary Are you feeling stressed by rising acts of antisemitism? A one-time support group opportunity will be offered on Monday night, June 10th, at 7:30pm in the sanctuary. The Riverside Trauma Center will provide a stress management group for our community. Riverside Trauma Center serves the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and assists communities and individuals when overwhelming and potentially traumatic events occur. Marlene Kenney, LICSW, and Shir Tikvah member, will co-lead a group for anyone who would like to get support around the recent acts of antisemitism. Speaker Anne Moore is a queer Arlington parent of 2 (Teddy, 3; Izzy, 7). She and her wife, Ariel, have been members of the Shir Tikvah community for 4 years. She grew up in a series of interchangeable suburbs around the country, always a few blocks from Route 7 and the SuperTarget. A WASP by birth but a Jew by affiliation, she has been an on-and-off community organizer and dyke-about-town since college, co-founding the Pride Center of VT in Burlington in the late 1990s, and moving to Somerville for graduate school in English Literature 2005. Her feminist sheroes are bell hooks, She-Ra, Anne Bronte, and Lizzo.
Dine, Daven, and Dunk Saturday, June 22 | 6:00 - 8:00 pm Dine, Daven, and Dunk returns with a special Havdalah Healing Circle, in the backyard of a member's home in Reading (address will be announced to registered participants). 6pm—swim in the pool, eat dinner and schmooze with friends new and old. It’s BYO—dinner and chairs! No shellfish or pork, please. 7-8pm—Havdalah Healing Circle will include songs, sharing, and support. We’ll be joined by members of the Reading community. This will be an opportunity to breathe in the new week together as we continue to strengthen each other through the building of caring, connected community. All ages are welcome. Rain or shine! Next Jericho Walk is Tuesday, June 18 at 1:00 pm at the Burlington ICE Center, 10 District Ave., Burlington. This is a peaceful, interfaith witnessing activity that expresses support for the rights of immigrants and the importance of keeping families together.
Beyond Shir Tikvah
Jewish Women of Mount Auburn Walking Tour: Join volunteer docent Helen Abrams on a walking tour, as she shares her ongoing research into the lives and contributions of Jewish residents of Mount Auburn – this time focusing on the stories of Jewish women such as Mildred Dresselhaus, the “Queen of Carbon”, MIT professor and researcher; Svetlana Boym, teacher, author and artist; and Gisela Warburg Wyzanski, who saved thousands of refugee children in the 1930’s. Although the other women to be visited are not as well known, this walk will celebrate their lives and compelling stories Mount Auburn has always welcomed people of all religious persuasions and Helen invites participants to share information about their own friends and family.
