Jericho Walk Tuesday, September 17 | 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM | ICE Enforcement and Removal Office, 1000 District Ave, Burlington (also comes up as 10 District Ave on maps)
This is a peaceful, interfaith witnessing activity that expresses support for the rights of immigrants and the importance of keeping families together. It begins and ends with a short prayer/song. Bring signs with positive messages (nothing about specific politicians, please). Please park near the back of the lot, as far as possible from District Ave, to leave parking spaces for those coming to their ICE appointments and for other building tenants.
Science and Judaism Shabbat Services with Rabbi Cari, Beth, Rabbi Rim, and Dr. Elissa Weitzman Friday, September 20 | 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
We will celebrate the work of our Shir Tikvah Scientific Community. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Elissa R. Weitzman, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and Adolescent/Young Adult Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital, and Faculty in the Computational Health Informatics Program (CHIP) and the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies. We will also have an Aufruf for Jesse Fiorito and Lindsay Becker, and naming ceremony for Jesse. Oneg co-sponsored by Fiorito/Becker families in honor of their wedding, and Marlin-Curiel family in honor of Annika's Bat Mitzvah.
Habitat for Humanity Build Saturday, September 21 | 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
Build with Habitat for Humanity once a month, from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. No particular skills are required to participate but you must be 16 or older to be on the work site. We usually eat out for lunch but lots of folks bring lunch and eat on site. If you are interested and want more information contact Annie LaCourt . Post-election Israel forum: Surveying the Landscape as the Dust Settles Sunday, September 22 | 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm | Oneg Room
Join the Israel committee at Shir Tikvah for a discussion of the meaning and impact of the election that will have taken place on September 17. We'll begin with a few minutes of introduction about the Israeli parliamentary system and the current configuration of the ever-shifting parties. We will then open up a free, respectful discussion, facilitated by members of the committee. Light refreshments will be served. All synagogue members are welcome. We extend a particular invitation to teens and youth.

Aging Well in Community Film Night: "Our Souls at Night" Sunday, September 22 | 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM| Oneg Room
Come join us Sunday evening for a screening the film, Our Souls at Night, starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. The film highlights the need for seeking companionship and new relationships as we get older to avoid isolation, and how extended family relationships and issues may influence our choices. Elul Climate Campaign September 1 - 29
Thanks go out to the ten people who have responded so far to our Elul climate challenge. The actions or lifestyle changes they are adopting include: installing solar power on the home, starting curbside composting, replacing meat with vegan seitan, calling a representative, attending a rally and an educational event, and examining geothermal for the home. We are accepting donations of raisins and whole grain crackers for JF&CS Family Table. Help us meet our monthly commitment of 35 boxes of crackers and 45 boxes of raisins! You can leave them in the box by the front door of the Temple. Read guidelines here.
We're also recruiting new volunteers for our ongoing projects. Interested in tutoring a child in an underserved elementary school in Somerville, cooking monthly meals for homeless adults, taking part in a Habitat for Humanity work crew, or learning to head up our Winchester Hospital X-mas Day volunteer effort?
