Volunteer Night at The Dwelling Place Wednesday, September 4, 2019 | 5:15 pm - 6:35 pm | 523 Main Street, Woburn
Volunteer at a soup kitchen located at the United Methodist Church in Woburn. Volunteers from Shir Tikvah serve meals the first Wednesday of every month at 5:15pm. Children with parents are welcome. This is part of TST’s Learning Corps program.

Grab a bite to eat, meet Shir Tikvah members, and learn about all the exciting grown-up goings-on at the Temple! Followed by a Shabbat service at 7:30.

Shabbat Services with Rabbi Cari and Beth. Stick around afterwards to have a bite to eat, meet our clergy, and get a tour of the building!

This lay-led group discusses Torah over bagels in the library, each Saturday morning at 10:30 am. Join us!
Torah on Tap Saturday, September 7 | 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm | The Waterfield Kitchen - 14 Thompson Street, Winchester
Bring the joy of study into Shabbat: Once a month we join together over a special beverage for an enriching study of the Torah portion read by Jews all over the world that week. Rabbi Cari leads the group, sharing her passion for discussing traditional text in relationship to our modern lives. Torah on Tap meets on the second floor. For people who prefer not to use money on Shabbat, contactRabbi Cari to arrange payment. Arrive 20 minutes early to allow time to order. The September 7 session will be an open house, with appetizers on us and a chance to have all your Shir Tikvah questions answered!
Volunteer Day with the Somerville Homeless Coalition Sunday, September 8 | 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm | The Ambrose School (27 High Street, Winchester)
Volunteer with the Somerville Homeless Coalition, an adult shelter, the second Sunday of every month, from 4:30 - 5:30 pm. You can prepare part of a meal, or deliver the meal. No regular commitment -- you will receive an email monthly and you can sign up at your convenience. Dropoff location is The Ambrose School. We are fast approaching the High Holidays season! Please be aware that the deadline for purchasing High Holidays tickets is September 9th. To buy tickets online, please click here. For more information on the schedule of services and for printable ticket order forms, please check here. Please note, complimentary tickets will automatically be sent (2 for a family membership, 1 for a single membership). You do not need to fill anything out to receive these complimentary tickets.

Elul Climate Campaign Begins September 1
Shir Tikvah is making the climate a theme at our Slichot service and throughout the High Holidays. Along with this focus, the newly reconstituted Shir Tikvah committee, Acting to Reverse Climate Change (ARCC), is issuing an Elul challenge. We are asking every synagogue member to adopt some new practice during the month of Elul, which starts on September 1 this year. Of course, you can think up your own practice; build on what you are already doing. Write to us hereand tell us what you're doing!

Arlington Town Day Saturday, September 14
Arlington Town Day is rapidly approaching. Every year, we have a table with information for those who are interested in learning more about our community. If you are available on September 14th, pleasesign up for our Temple Shir Tikvah table. It is easy and fun to greet members of the community who stop by. Signing up for one to two hours would be appreciated. Thank you for participating. If you have questions, please contact membership.
Annnual BBQ Saturday, September 14 | 4:00 pm (rain or shine)
Our annual kickoff barbecue will again be hosted by Anne and Marc Emmerich (many thanks to Anne & Marc). We'll provide the grill (burgers, kosher hotdogs, and barbecued chicken) and the beverages (wine, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks). You bring your chair and a side dish, salad, or dessert (sized to serve 6-8 people) with a serving utensil. Volunteers are requested to help staff the grills; let us know if you'd like to help. Watch for further details in email announcements from the temple. Cost is $10 per person.
Celebration of Science and Judaism Friday, September 20 | 7:30 pm
Please join us on Friday night, September 20th to celebrate the work of our Shir Tikvah Scientific Community. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Elissa R. Weitzman, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and Adolescent/Young Adult Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital, and Faculty in the Computational Health Informatics Program (CHIP) and the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies. If you are a scientist and part of the TST community, we would like to honor you. Please fill out our form with your information, and you will be included.

We are accepting donations of raisins and whole grain crackers for JF&CS Family Table. Help us meet our monthly commitment of 35 boxes of crackers and 45 boxes of raisins! You can leave them in the box by the front door of the Temple. Read guidelines here.
We're also recruiting new volunteers for our ongoing projects. Interested in tutoring a child in an underserved elementary school in Somerville, cooking monthly meals for homeless adults, taking part in a Habitat for Humanity work crew, or learning to head up our Winchester Hospital X-mas Day volunteer effort?
